SINGER Janet Jackson gave new meaning to the term Super Bowl - by exposing one of her own magnificent domes at last night's American football final.
A hundred million TV viewers were left gob-smacked when the star's leather bustier was "accidentally" torn open by Justin Timberlake leaving her right breast - complete with silver nipple ring - hanging out.
MTV, which produced the show for sister network CBS, apologised shortly after the Carolina Panthers-New England Patriots game and insisted the incident at the Reliant Stadium in Houston was "completely unintentional".
In a statement, MTV said: "The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance.
"MTV regrets this incident occurred and we apologise to anyone who was offended by it."
Shame-faced Justin also issued an apology for the "regrettable" incident, MTV News reported.
"I am sorry if anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction
during the half-time performance at the Super Bowl.
"It was not intentional and is regrettable."
Janet did not release an official statement after the game but her representatives told MTV News that she apologised for the incident.
The National Football League said it was unlikely MTV would be asked to produce another Super Bowl half-time show - the highlight of the US sporting calendar.
In a statement on its website, NFL executive vice president Joe Browne said: "We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced half-time show.
"They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the show."
